Our Approach
We started Med-Oide as two young doctors with a combined 14 years of experience providing 1:1 HPAT tutorials
In Medicine much of the most effective learning is achieved through first principle understanding of subjects. We found that in 5 or 6 sessions of 1:1 tutorials we could concentrate on providing the tools to approach questions that lead to the greatest improvements in students’ individual study and results. Subsequent tutorials would generally involve guided practice with a diminishing return in value for students.
This has informed our approach in creating the Med-Oide HPAT courses. We have distilled these initial 5-6 individual sessions into a 2-day course that provides students with tools and strategies to proceed with their own HPAT practice with efficiency and confidence.
Our goal is to equip students with a first principle understanding of the exam and its question that will serve them in achieving the highest possible score on the day.
Who are we
We completed our Medical degrees in Trinity College Dublin Graduating in 2023. We have also been employed as tutors of Medical students while completing Masters degrees in Neuroscience 2020-2021
Dr Eoin Ó Briain has 7 years of experience as a tutor of the HPAT, with leaving cert Mathematics, Applied Maths, Physics, French, and Irish. He has also been employed as a substitute secondary school teacher 2020-2023 and currently works as a Senior House Officer in a Dublin Emergency Department
Dr Jamie Rice also has 7 years of experience as a tutor of the HPAT, Mathematics, Physics, and German and is currently employed as an Anaesthetics Tutor in a Dublin hospital while completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Professions Education with RCSI.
